The Cottage:
The Granary has been painstakingly restored and renovated by the owners using local natural materials and craftsmen in the process.
The entrance hall has a slate floor with luxurious underfloor heating. There is boot & shoe storage rack which benefits from the underfloor heating. The floor is finished with Kirkstone Sea Green slate, an attractive variance of greys and greens with a honed surface and beautiful shine. Floor lights flood the entrance hall which is lined with floor to ceiling windows.
The slate floor and underfloor heating continues to the ground floor bathroom which is fitted with a wet room style contemporary suite. A freestanding bath with hand held shower is central whilst a separate walk in shower with a rain shower head and additional hand held shower head occupies a corner. There is a matching WC and feature washbasin along with a heated towel rail. Above the shower is an opaque window with borrowed light from the kitchen.
There are several steps down and around a corner to the bedrooms. First is the zip & link twin bedroom. This bed can be made up as a twin or as a superking, please let us know on booking.
In the king bedroom there is a oak wishbone arched bed head with oak beamed ceiling. There is a solid oak door with slate threshold to the front of the property where there is a small enclosed paved front patio with a bench.
An oak staircase with open treads leads up to the first floor living area. The space has been used to good effect with an open plan sitting area arranged around a Morso woodburner on a glass hearth. There is a contemporary sofa and huge armchair along with a flat screen HD3D TV cinema system with surround sound Blu-ray and Ipod dock. An initial supply of logs is provided for the woodburner.
The impressive kitchen has a central island equipped with plenty of storage, handmade by a local craftsman, topped with a Honister slate worktop. All the units have been hand made allowing ample storage space. The kitchen is equipped with a slimline dishwasher, a fridge with freezer box, a washer/drier and an electric oven and ceramic hob.
Next to the kitchen area is a large contemporary rectangular glass topped oak dining table with seating for four people. There are two windows with views across open farm land towards the Buttermere fells with Skiddaw in the distance. Secure storage can be provided for bicycles, motorcycles, canoes etc but please enquire with the owners beforehand. One car can be parked on the gravel driveway at the side of house immediately adjacent to the entrance. Further parking is available on street. The lane outside is very quiet.
The Granary enjoys beautiful sunrises and sunsets, having a southerly aspect and the front outside seating area has fell views over farm land to Skiddaw and towards the Loweswater and Buttermere Fells. A slate bench is provided to enjoy the view. A further table and chairs can be found to the rear private enclosed and sheltered sandstone paved patio which is also suitable for a BBQ (not provided). The village green is a mere 25 meters walk where there is a stream bounded by luscious grassy meadow banks and a green lane.
